RADON v.o.s. corporation, the first private
Czech firm dealing mainly with radon
concentration measurements and with radon
risk evaluation, was established in 1990.
Its customers are private persons as well as the State
Office for Nuclear Safety, Czech Geological Survey, the Ministry of Environment
of the C. R., projecting and building firms and other authorities not only from
the Czech Republic. During nineteen years we have realized more than 26 000
expert assessments and we have made radon surveys at more than 13 000 areas of
different size (in various regions of the Czech Republic, in Slovakia and in
Germany). Our database contains results of more than 250 000 soil-gas radon
concentration measurements.
Beside commercial activities, the firm has
participated in many research projects
(individual approach to radon protection,
improvement of the uniform method for radon
risk classification of foundation soils,
local radon risk maps, influence of
tectonics on the radon potential, temporal
and spatial variability of soil-gas radon
concentration, role of soil permeability and
permeability determination, radon database,
transfer factor). The results were regularly
presented at international scientific
conferences.
All
measuring devices are regularly verified in
accordance with the Czech Law on Metrology.
We have also participated in several
international intercomparison exercises.
The method for soil-gas sample collection
that we had proposed in 1990 is now commonly
used in the Czech Republic. The sampling
system and other parts of measuring devices
of our production (Lucas cells) have been
successfully tested and used in several
countries (Germany, Luxembourg, Saudi
Arabia, Slovakia).
The representative of the firm is the head
of Radon Risk Association (ARR) that was
established by private firms dealing with
radon risk monitoring in 1993 to coordinate
the participation in the radon programme
with the National Radon Commission (with
representatives of all engaged ministries
and local authorities).
- radon risk classification of
foundation soils at building areas
- indoor radon measurements
- determination of effective doses at
workplaces with a risk of higher exposure to
naturally occurring radioactive materials
(NORM)
- E.I.A. - environmental impact
assessment
- Quality Assurance programme in X-ray
dental and veterinary diagnostics
- accounting / book keeping
and we sell equipments for radon risk monitoring
- radon detectors, sampling system, equipment for in situ permeability
measurements RADON – JOK (already sold to Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada,
China, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Japan,
Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland,
Ukraine, Vietnam).
With our colleagues from Czech Geological Survey, we organize a regular
"International Workshop on the Geological Aspects of Radon Risk
Mapping". Many scientists from almost all continents (except Antarctic)
participated in this workshop during last eighteen years and all workshops were
very successful. The 9th workshop was held in Oslo, Norway, in
August 2008 (in the framework of the 33rd International Geological
Congress), we prepare now the 10th workshop, which should be open in September, 2010.
