VENUE
The conference will be held in the
beautiful city of Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, at the conference hall
of the Hotel DAP. The hotel is located in the western
part of central Prague, near the Prague Castle, the dominant symbol of Prague,
in the direction to the Ruzyne airport, close by to the Dejvicka underground
station (line A). It is also well served by tram and buses.

ACCOMMODATION
On site accommodations (i.e.
directly at the Hotel DAP, medium/low price) is possible but limited in number
to 80 - 90 participants. See
- www.daphotel.cz and click on “English”
or directly:
For more information please
contact Mrs. Steinertova, the representative of Hotel DAP, e-mail: steinertova@vkp.vlrz.cz , and mention
„radon workshop“
The direct neighbourhood has
also a large number of excellent hotels, pensions, hostels, which you can find
via internet (we recommend to concentrate on accommodation in the central parts
of Prague – Prague 1 and/or Prague 6).
RIM - GENERAL INFORMATION
Radon reference
sites are located 60 km SW of Prague (Praha) near the city Milín in the
Czech Republic. Three natural radon reference sites Cetyne, Bohostice and Buk,
established in 2000, located on meadows, are accessible for cars. Their mutual total distance is 12 km. Each
reference site implies 15 stabilized
stations in
a grid of 5x5 m. Separate reference sites differ in radon activity
concentration in soil gas, the radon distribution within the reference site is
relatively homogeneous, thickness and permeability of soils enable soil gas
sampling at the reference depth of 0.8 m. Geological setting at radon reference
sites was investigated by seismic and geoelectric geophysical methods, in situ
gamma-ray spectrometry, and in situ soil gas permeability determination.
Laboratory and in situ measurements of soil moisture, thoron in soil gas
estimates and shallow hand drilling completed site investigations. Temporal
radon variations were recorded in periods 2000 – 2001 and 2000 – 2009. Faculty
of Science of the Charles University in Prague is the administrator of radon
reference sites.
Radon comparison
measurement at reference sites will be
organized for single participants or groups of participants. Ideally each
organization should measure 15 stabilized stations of each reference site by
its own technique, however a lower number of stations can be measured within
the available time (computer programme TestMOAR accepts reduced number of radon
data observed at a reference site). Soil air is sampled from the depth of 0.8 m
near to each stabilized station. There is no electrical power supply at radon
reference sites, but there will be mobile power supply on demand. Each
organization reports data on the activity concentration of radon in soil gas
(kBq/m3) at single stations of reference sites.
Results of
tests will be anonymous, each participant (group) will be denoted by a code.
Benefits of participation in radon comparison measurement are:
- Radon comparison with
international expert community.
- Radon comparison with the database
of 167 radon-measuring organizations in the Czech Republic.
- The use of three well documented
radon reference sites fulfilling geological requirements.
- Based on 17-year experience in
periodical radon comparison measurement 1992-1999, and 2000-2009.
- Tests by computer programme
TestMOAR based on statistics, compiled by the Institute of Applied
Mathematics and Computer Technique, Faculty of Science, Charles University
in Prague.
Accommodation: Suitable accommodation, just in the area of radon reference sites,
is available in “Hotel u Milina” (www.hotelumilina.cz),
but there will be certainly a possibility of transport from Prague.
More detailed
information you will be able to find on the workshop webpage, details will be
discussed with all participants of RIM via e-mail.

for each another one (third, fourth ..., participant in the same measuring
group) is 50 €. Accommodation
is not included in the registration fee.
In order to confirm your registration, a proof of
payment (photocopy of bank transfer) should be sent to RADON v.o.s. (via

CONFERENCE RADON 2010
Due
to the history and cycles of radon workshops and conferences in Prague,
this year both events - the 10th International Workshop on the
Geological Aspects of Radon Risk Mappping with a regular cycle of 2
years, and the 6th Conference on Protection against Radon at Home and
at Work with a regilar cycle of 3 years - are held in Prague. Therefore
the organizers decided to join a little bit the programmes, to enable
theparticipation in both events. In that case, the reduced fee (minus
50 EUR for both events - workshop, conference) will be applied.
The
6th Conference on Protection against Radon at Home and at Work is held
from 13th to 17th of September (the week before workshop), for more
details please visit a web:
